We all know that the process of moving is a stressful one. You have to sort every single one of your belongings, some of which you may not have touched for years. You have to disassemble your furniture, organize everything neatly into boxes that you will have to later go through, all while keeping your regular daily life in order. It’s close to chaos.
That’s why when it comes to getting packed, we’ve come up with a few tips for you to use to get everything done.
Start Packing Early
Moving takes time and so does packing. Starting to pack at least six weeks before moving day is generally a good time to ensure that you won’t need to rush to get everything done. When you’re packing, decide what will move and what won’t. You’ll probably find quite a few things that are better off in the trash, recycled, or given to someone else. Label the boxes that you use to pack your things. This will help both you and your movers on what is fragile and where everything needs to go in your new home. Taking inventory also makes sure that everything that you move will be there when you’re at your destination.
Use The Original Boxes For Appliances
You may have enough boxes to pack your entire house, but sometimes big appliances like your TV can be hard to properly box. If you’ve still kept the original container it came in, it’s likely the best place to pack it. Not only will the box fit your appliance perfectly, but chances are you kept the styrofoam used to keep it safe.
Pack a Personal Overnight Bag
In the middle of packing everything it can be easy to lose track of the things you may need for the night. After you’re done moving you don’t want to look through all your boxes just to find your towel. Keeping an overnight bag can let you relax for a little while without needing to immediately unpack everything.
